ACTIVITIES SINCE 1999
1. At once
after its creation, CAFEM has developed, educational as well as
social activities, in a district in the suburbs of Rabat,
known under the name of "Akreuch".
It is a big
shantytown, formed around the dump of Rabat-Salé and occupied by
approximatively 10 000 people, is that about 4000 families.
The
establishment of a CAFEM Centre in this district and the activities
developed there (Literacy, Hygiene, Health, etc. …), the visits paid by the
volunteers and the various foreign delegations to the site of the project,
pushed the Moroccan authorities to reconsider their methods of management of
the Dumps by entrusting it to a foreign company, and to respect the
standards of hygiene and environment. As for the cleansing of the district,
whose sewers were with open sky, it was carried out after the arrival of
CAFEM on the site; as well as for the electricity. We should quote that
CAFEM is the first NGO to integrate the district, and its plea in favour of
the families and the children bore its fruits. These 4000 families will be
accommodated before the end of 2004 under better conditions.
2. In
parallel with its activities with Akreuch, CAFEM was associated an
international program desenclavement of the rural populations in the
northern zone of Morocco (Province of Chefchaouen). The action consisted to
frame women and families for the safeguarding of the two forest solid masses
and to devote them to agricultural and craft activities, alternative to the
culture of the cannabis. Thus, CAFEM opened 3 centres in 3 groupings of
housing, counting more than 300 families each. These centres still function
by exempting courses of literacy and training in practical activities and
developing the already existing systems of solidarity around the
installation of tracks, the exploitation of collective furnaces, creation of
cooperatives, etc … We should precise that these actions are undertaken in
the framework of an International program of Cooperation (Morocco/ European
Union) named “GEFRIF” and ended two years ago. CAFEM continues to support
its perenniality.
3. Construction
of a socio educative centre in “Akreuch” of a surface of 500 square meters
which can accommodate 1000 people per annum and employing 6 people
full-time. The activities of this centre comprise elimination of illiteracy,
health and hygiene, training of manual trades and sensitizing on
environmental issues.
4. Program
of integration of women, in the forest stock management, in the Moroccan Rif
(northern Morocco), object of convention of partnership between Morocco and
the European Union to eradicate, in the long run, the culture of cannabis.
